In the smart home lab we have a range of different robots to support a variety of purposes.
Companion robots
Pixel the cat
Pixel is from the ginger and white tabby cat from RoboPets.
Sparky the dragon
Sparky is a prototype Welsh dragon companion developed as part of the Smart Home Lab research.
MiRo
MiRo from ConsequentialRobotics. Simulating small mammal behaviour MiRo enjoys lots of attention as long as it isn’t too noisy.
Small mobile robots
Whilst not necessarily companion robots, these small robots can provide some interaction, but also navigate around to observe the environment.
Pigoo
Combination of a robot kit car driven by an Arduino extended with a Raspberry Pi.

A kit robot controlled with a Raspberry Pi.
Assistant robots
Wheelie-handy
A combination of the Tiago mobile base and Kinova arm this platform provides assistance for retrieving objects from around the home lab.
Telepresence robot
A telepresence robot from Double Robotics, this uses augmented reality to support remote navigation and video interaction.
Prototype Wheelchair
A wheelchair chassis used as a development platform for a range of applications, including assisted navigation around a home environment.
Wheelchair
A power wheelchair for evaluating user-in-the-loop assistive technologies for wheelchair users.
